Clallam Transit System Assumes Operations of Specialized Paratransit ServiceOn April 1, 2011 the Clallam Transit System assumed the day-to-day operations of providing the county's public specialized paratransit service to persons who have difficulty using the regular fixed-route public transit service due to impairment or age. No changes have been made regarding how paratransit clients use this service. Clallam Transit's mission is to provide a seamless transition and will continue to provide a high level of quality of service to the residents of Clallam County. What is complementary paratransit service? In 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was established as a comprehensive approach to end discrimination against persons with disabilities. This Federal Act specifies that public entities that provide a routed bus service must offer comparable paratransit service to individuals with disabilities who are unable to use the routed bus system. Trips should be scheduled at least 1-day in advance, or up to 7-days in advance. Help us to serve you better by making your trip reservation as far in advance as possible. When scheduling, be prepared to schedule a return time as well as a pickup time. Next-day service reservations must be made by 4:00PM the previous day; same-day service will be provided only if space and time are available. the longer you wait to schedule your ride, the less likely we will be able to meet your time constraints or we may not have room for you!! If you want to reserve a ride for a specific appointment time, be sure to: Allow plenty of time to finish your appointment so you will be ready for the bus when it arrives. Trip reservations are made with a "30-minute pickup window." For example, for a pickup time of 8:00AM the bus could actually arrive fifteen (15) minutes before 8:00AM or up to fifteen (15) minutes after 8:00AM Buses that arrive in the thirty (30) minute pickup window will wait no more than five (5) minutes for a rider that is not ready. If the vehicle arrives earlier than the pickup window and the rider is not ready, the driver will wait until the pickup window begins and then will wait an additional five (5) minutes. Riders should be ready and waiting just inside the most exterior door of the pickup address. Those who will be picked up at a large facility with many entrances must specify the exact pickup location when the reservation is made. Traffic conditions or other unexpected events can delay a pickup. If the bus has not arrived by the end of the thirty (30) minute pickup window, call our office to inquire.
