Clallam Transit - Description

Description

Paratransit Services, headquartered in Bremerton, WA, provides specialized transportation services to persons who have difficulty using the regular transit due to physical impairment or age.

Paratransit Services is under contract with the Clallam Transit System (CTS) to provide complementary, demand-response, paratransit service to Clallam County residents.

What is complementary paratransit service?

In 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was established as a comprehensive approach to end discrimination against persons with disabilities. This Federal Act specifies that public entities that provide a routed bus service must offer comparable paratransit service to individuals with disabilities who are unable to use the routed bus system.

Who is eligible for paratransit?

Individuals are eligible for paratransit service if they fall under one or more of the following ADA categories and/or are 80 years or older without a disability.

Category I

Any individual with a disability who is unable to board, ride, or disembark from any vehicle on a bus system that is readily accessible to and usable by individuals with disabilities.

Category II

Any individual with a disability who needs the assistance of a wheelchair lift or other boarding assistance device and the bus route the person wants to travel is not 100% accessible - or the bus lift cannot be deployed at the desired stop.

Category III

Any individual with a disability who has a specific impairment-related condition that prevents that individual from traveling to a boarding and disembarking location on the bus system.

How do I become eligible to ride Clallam Paratransit?

Call Clallam Paratransit, and we will send you an ADA application form and a professional verification form; a counselor, physician, or other health care professional must verify your disability status. Applications can be mailed, faxed or brought to our office:

Trips should be scheduled at least 1-day in advance, or up to 14-days in advance. Help us to serve you better by making your trip reservation as far in advance as possible. When scheduling, be prepared to schedule a return time as well as a pickup time. Next-day service reservations must be made by 4:00PM the previous day; same-day service will be provided only if space and time are available. Please do not wait until the last minute or we may not have room for you!!

If you want to reserve a ride for a specific appointment time, be sure to:
Allow enough time to get from the bus to your destination.
Be aware of opening and closing times at your destination so you do not have to wait outside the building; your arrival may be as early as thirty (30) minutes before your appointment.

Allow plenty of time to finish your appointment so you will be ready for the bus when it arrives.

Trip reservations are made with a "30-minute pickup window." For example, for a pickup time of 8:00AM the bus could actually arrive fifteen (15) minutes before 8:00AM or up to fifteen (15) minutes after 8:00AM

Buses that arrive in the thirty (30) minute pickup window will wait no more than five (5) minutes for a rider that is not ready. If the vehicle arrives earlier than the pickup window and the rider is not ready, the driver will wait until the pickup window begins and then will wait an additional five (5) minutes.

Riders should be ready and waiting just inside the most exterior door of the pickup address. Those who will be picked up at a large facility with many entrances must specify the exact pickup location when the reservation is made.

Traffic conditions or other unexpected events can delay a pickup. If the bus has not arrived by the end of the thirty (30) minute pickup window, call our office to inquire.
